Summary:

Data@Breakfast is an initiative of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Big Data and Informatics Research Flagship. Traditionally it takes place on the last Friday of every month at 7:30 (SAST).

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the talks are now online.

In the first online talk (27 March 2020) Dr Richard Lessells spoke about "Responding to the COVID-19 epidemic: local and global perspective".

Dr Lessells is an Infectious Diseases Specialist at KRISP, UKZN. He trained as an infectious diseases and internal medicine physician in the UK and has a PhD from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. He has been conducting clinical and population-based research in HIV & TB in KwaZulu-Natal since 2007. He is currently deployed to the UKZN COVID-19 war room and is supporting the local response to the epidemic.
