Summary: The first case of the COVID-19 sub-variant that's currently the dominant strain in the US, has been confirmed in South Africa. The XBB.1.5 has been detected by Stellenbosch University's Network for Genomics Surveillance. The National Department of Health says that they have been alerted about the variant which has been described as the most transmissible sub-variant to date.
